|
Anyone been? Looking for a 4/5 day break and people keep saying Croatia is worth a trip.
If Mr Vlasic is on here maybe he can comment?

I'd say Dubrovnik and then go down the coast a bit to Cevtat which (when I went) was beautiful and the food was amazing.

If you are wanting to visit Dubrovnik and would prefer a quieter location for your stay than the city itself, I would suggest staying on one of the nearby islands.
About ten years ago I stayed at the TUI Blue on Kalamota (which is a free vehicle-free island) about a 20-30min boat ride from Dubrovnik.
The hotel 4* was decent ( n.b. Adult only), which was just as well as there were only a couple of alternative bars and restaurants on the island . Daily Ferries to and from Dubrovnik or to other islands further along the coast. ( A little more commercial on Lopud)
Did a day visiting other islands a day in Dubrovnik and a separate night charter to the city. The other four days relaxing walking around the island and swimming in the tideless Adriatic with fish swimming up to you in beautifully clear water. I would recommend it.

I didnt find the food awful at all, they do like a lot of mince and things stuffed with cheese but I mainly ate seafood which was excellent.

Twoleft, If you want a a nice meal in a nice setting go to Yacht Club Orsan which isn’t too far from your hotel. It is in Gruz harbour set amongst the boats as the name would suggest. Would also suggest a boat trip to island of Lopud for a day. You can get local boy from Gruz harbour and only takes 30 mins with regular returns. Cable car up the mountain from near old town is worth a visit. Nice restaurant up top and war museum.

Two countries where I never had a bad meal - Croatia and Italy. Italy had some massively over-pricred meals, but always tasty. Food in Croatia was superb, maybe its just the tourist places that serve up shit

Was was in Pula for Nov and Dec and love it, beautiful place and lovely people. Probably heading back over at the end of May in the car to go touring with a lass i met over there. Going to drive down the coast and see the rest of the country, take a month or so whilst working.

Make sure to go to the Buza bar ('Hidden' bar outside the city walls on the cliff) Amazing views of the sea at sunset. You'll have to google directions on how to get there as it's through a few passages in the city walls.

I've got a day trip to krka booked next week.
Leroy - You're in for a treat mate - Pula is lovely. Do hire a car if you can, the whole of Istria is worth a visit, especially Lovren and Opatija - the austro-hungarian riviera.

I'm lucky to have travelled quite a bit and I reckon Croatia is up in my top 3 places. Some fantastic cities such as Dubrovnik and Zadar. I have driven all across it and the scenery is stunning, the Krka waterfalls are beautiful, good weather, good food, nice beaches, some of their birds are 10/10's aswell.

I went to the island of Brac when it was still Yugoslavia, 6 months later the war kicked off but was nice. It was full of tennis courts and German nudists though.
